Great barrier reef is the largest coral reef in the world, one of seven natural wonders of the world. It link together 900 islands and stretching over 2300 kilometers. It is large enough to seen from outer space, also became national icon of Australia. Great barrier reef contains 3000 individual reefs created by micro organisms in millions of years. It became UNESCO’s world heritage site in 1981.
Great barrier reef support wide variety of marine life. There are 1500 species of fishes, 3000 species of mollusks, 500 species of worms, 133 species of sharks and rays and 30 species of whales and dolphins lives within great barrier reef. Nowadays great barrier reef attracts 2 million visitors every year. Glass-bottomed boat tours, snorkeling and kayaking are popular tourist activities in great barrier reef.
